A detailed guide to gout and its symptoms

It is characterized as redness and tenderness in joints and sudden and severe attacks of pain in joints. It can also be considered as complex form of arthritis and normally uric acid levels becomes high in gout and uric acid crystals start to accumulate in joints which then leads to joint pain. Causes:

  • Accumulation of uric acid crystals in joints

  • More use of alcohol and beers
  • More production of uric acid by body
  • More excretion of uric acid in kidneys

Risk factors:

Age:

Age is the major risk factor associated with development of gout. In aged persons, gout is re likely to be developed. In males, gout occur at the age of 30 and 50 and in females it occurs after menopause.

Gender:

Gout is mostly occurred in males than females. Because males have high uric acid levels. 

Family history:

Genetic disorders are quite common and many diseases occur due to genetic disorders. So if there is family history of gout then the person may be at high risk of developing gout. 

Obesity:

Obesity increases the production of uric acid in our body which results in the accumulation of uric acid crystals in body. Over weight also weakens the joints and then movement of muscles is restricted. 

Diet:

Those people who eat purine containing foods such as sea food and meat have more chances if developing gout. 

Complications:

Recurrent gout:

If gout is left untreated or complete treatment is not given then it will lead to attacks of gout. It can also cause destruction of joints if it is left untreated. 

Kidney stones:

As in gout, uric acid crystals accumulate in joints so these also cause formation of kidney stones. However certain medicines can be used to remove kidney stones. 

Tophi:
