Since you mentioned "christened" I am thinking it has a biblical reference. Many wives beared my first name, I think the name is "Sarah" because it is the most popular biblical name used. The last name could reference to "Israel". Jacob, son of Isaac, who is son of Abraham and Sarah, faced many battles with men and one battle with GOD. GOD changed his name to Isreal after their battle. Jacob had two wives, Rachel and Leah. All of Jacob's descendants became known as "children of Israel." The children of Israel faced many battles for land. I know I probably went in the opposite direction with my answer but this is the only thing I could come up with that made sense to me.
