The Wrestler
Soooooooo, I just finished my private screening of a movie that's been amidst much conversation as of late, The Wrestler. And I gotta tell ya, BOY WAS I IMPRESSED!!!! Impressed so much that I fell asleep right at the part when he was in the trailer looking at his daughters pic. Impressed at all the hoopla surrounding this movie only to view it for myself and realize that its a c+ flick at best. I dunno, maybe its me or the fact that I didn't come up thru that era of "Rasslin", but I just don't see what the big deal is about this movie. Obviously I support the movie because it supports (in its on way) and gives more exposure to the industry I love, but other than that, it's just another movie. Hell, in my humble opinion, Roddy Piper's "They Live" deserved a lot more credit and should be held in higher esteem than this movie.....Ah, but wait, "They Live" actually starred a "WRESTLER." Got it! So, lemme get this correct, it takes an actor, with about as much natural charisma as Brayden Walker (NOT Chris Harris) to portray a wrestler, and he's praised for his adaption of such, but you put a wrestler in a leading role and they're bashed for no acting ability?
Could it be that the real reason that Mickey Rourke received so much praise from Hollywood is because, unknown to many, this role was a mirror image of Rourke himself? The washed up actor, that fell off the radar, only to try to hang in there for "One More Big Run?" Well, Congrats!! Take a bow Mickey, you earned it and it's your time to shine!

Well Big Bro the Wrestler in my opinion was a great movie and I was not in this business when these days of Rasslin were going on as well but how they put together his outside life and intertwined them is what people dont no or dont see it showed that life as a wrestler past or present isnt always what you may think and every wrestler isn't like The RAM It shows Passion for this business the fans etc on the flipside it shows the things the media loves to dwell on in pro wrestling It really took bits of reality from the locker room to the end of a show tearing down the ring it captured Indy wrestling from cheap promoters and the ways sum promoters stiff you workers bickering at one another also gives off the never say die attitude but also shows use your head God gave you common sense but sense ain't common no one puts you in situations but your self in all It shows ups and downs in this business and life and shows how this is a different generation of the business it shows passion but also stupidity in closing this is Mickey's time in the spotlight now its time to see what he'll do with it or is the Ram really Rourke? Will see
Less is More kid! Geesh
lol dont knock the barbershop until you try it,id rather spend 10 bucks then the 6.50 a ticket at the movies(not including popcorn, soda, nachos and candy)if i spent all that money just to see the movie once you might as well give me a pepsi tat, call me phil and stamp stupid on my forehead(im sure pope is laughing his butt off)
Lol, This Kid is winning me over more and more each day!
Man ive heard the movie is great,i gotta see if Tony from the barber shop got this on bootleg for 10$ but most opinion's ive heard from pro wrestlers have been so-so but i wanna be the judge of that myself
I can respect that Yung its hard to get that but on bootleg well you know Tee.com doesn't support the use of copyright materials LOL!!!
You should post replies more often.
In case the FAM wasn't aware, Yungin (B-Redd) was given instruction by Your Pope to take an IQ test by way of the following Assignment: "Read the Column on the WRESTLER and tell me what you think?"
So FAM, tell me what you thought of his comments and RATE the resident Yungin of TEE.com.
Pope rates him at 9.5 out of 10
(-.5 for the Barbershop comment, lol)
Downloading movies and watching them on your laptop DO NOT make them Private Screenings, Pope! I gotta get that off my chest. >=O
As far as Rourke goes, that dude looks scraggly in real life and if he's really dropping out of making Sin City 2 then he'd dead to me.
First off I would like to say congrats to Mickey Rourke on what I've read and heard that was great movie ( which I need to see). I'm not a wrestler but I do respect and love the sport. Just like most fans(Smarks) on the outside looking in I can see how some wrestlers can become former shells of themselves.(not saving your money, getting into drugs...ect) This is the idea of the movie. This got me thinking the story of "the wrestler" could be the story of "THE YOU"( not everyone does drugs). We all know that the media looks down on wrestlers , the fans and anyone involved with it. How many times have WRESTLERS involved in movies had showed up the actor/s in their own movie? Anyway back to the topic at hand. The plot of the movie could effect anyone (even HBK but I forgot he still get paid from all the WWE shop zone stuff he sells)so in today's economy Americans are having a hard time , just take a look in your city and on TV. I can see why this movie will relate with just about anyone ( makes for a good wrestling storyline huh?) oh well The movie is out and next year their will be a THOUSAND COPYCATS like it.I take this from everything I read on the movie and observing people comments. The director of the movie did a hell of a job of getting old school feel and mindset of the wrestling industry back in the day GOOD JOB FOR YOU!!
To the media YOU CAN EAT A SICK ****!!! the only thing your waiting for is the negative **** of some wrestler dieing. Where in the HELL where your cameras when Pres. Bush was thanking WWE for taking their time , risking their LIVES to entertain THE TROOPS!!!!! now you want to jump on the BANDWAGON of someone who in your eyes was WASHED UP!!! didn't you guys make this mistake with Poor Britney?? now you want to be invited to her circus LOL!!!! anyway MEDIA i have something for you all....... never mind your not worth the TIME!!! to all the wrestling fans I hope to you get to see this movie( someone take me with ya lol) I hope this movie does something positive for Wrestling. I know that ROH Wrestling is having positive returns from it all ready. This is good because if you have more wrestling places to guys to work and entertain Us and that what is all about.
this is just my opinion you don't have to like it just respect it.
You write you haven't seen the movie, then you reiterate it in the shoutbox:
"Deacon: i still need to see that movie just might have hit the block for it or my local barber shop ya know how we do lol"
One must be very talented and somewhat Prophetic to comment in depth (Very Long and In Depth) about a movie that they have yet to see! Wow is all I can say! Wow!
And NO Deac, I don't know how "YOU" do it. Lol
Did you not know that me YOUR Deacon had these POWERS!!!!! One day I might teach you how "I DO IT" now back to what I wrote in the shoutbox. The reason for this oh "great pope" it was a JOKE. Sorry that it wasn't too CRYPTIC/or funny for you. I glad you to the time to copy and paste what I wrote lol. clap clap for you. Let me leave you with this. One can make a comment about something that they have limited knowledge on. That's the main reason for people adding their TWO CENTS on a certain subject.
Anyway it make me proud that you took time out of your busy schedule to REPLY to BOTH of my comments MY "pope" DOESN'T do that often. Thanks elijah THANKS A LOT
even if it does not make sense like many other opinions/comments surrounding this movie?
Isn't Rourke the the guy that did a voice over in my Ps2 game, True Crime: NY, geez, still don't know who the guy is. I had a feeling it would be overrated but its difficult to make judgement since I've yet to see it, even from all the hoopla and ballyhoo and awards it has received. Until I'll catch my own little public "theatrical" screening when it's released soon nationwide, I'll leave it be, no comment... >=)
